How Not to Quit Planning
How do people define success? It is the ability to achieve your goals in life, whatever they may be. What can you do to improve your chances of achieving those goals? Start planning. But sometimes it can fail the first time and people stop doing it and lose all progress. It’s a matter of mindset. There are two basic ways of thinking: a given mindset and a growth mindset.
People with a givenness mindset believe that success is not the result of hard work, but simply a consequence of innate talents. Those with a growth mindset feel they can change, grow and learn through effort. So how do you create a growth mindset?
You have to believe that effort matters. Instead of thinking that abilities are fixed, people with a growth mindset believe that effort and hard work will lead to significant growth. When faced with a challenge, they look for ways to develop the knowledge and skills to win. Growth-minded people do not believe that failure is a reflection of their abilities. Instead, they view failure as a valuable source of experience from which they can learn and improve.
Some people can lose motivation. To increase your sense of intrinsic motivation you need to start challenging yourself. Achieving a goal that is attainable, but not necessarily easy, is a great way to increase motivation to succeed. Challenges keep you interested in the task and boost your self-esteem. Staying intrinsically motivated to achieve goals will help you feel in control of what is happening and influence the outcome. To do this, look for ways in which you can play an active role.
